Experimenting with AI image generation for custom eLearning projects
AI image generation continues to improve, so here is a quick update to my 𝐃𝐚𝐥𝐥-𝐄 experiments.
Back in March of this year, I started experimenting with Dall-E to create graphics to see if any could potentially be used in eLearning development projects.
The results of the AI image generation experiment were pretty good, but all seemed to have some sort of issue.
AI moves fast though, and that was four months ago somehow.
So, here is an update using one of the same prompts I tried back then.
𝐺𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑎 𝐵𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑓𝑒𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑒 𝐶𝑜𝑐𝑎-𝐶𝑜𝑙𝑎 𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑜𝑦𝑒𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎 𝑟𝑒𝑓𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑠𝑜𝑑𝑎 𝑐𝑜𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑟 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑐𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑛 𝑙𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑣𝑒𝑛𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑒. 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑜𝑦𝑒𝑒 𝑖𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑦. 𝑆ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑎 𝑣𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑡𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑜𝑑𝑎 𝑡𝑦𝑝𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑟 𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑣𝑒𝑠.
The image on the left is from March 17, 2024.
The two images on the right are from today, July 22nd.
Honestly, I was pretty impressed with the woman and background back in March.
The one obvious flaw was the length of her left arm which seemed about as long as her body.
Today's AI generated images are better though.
Her arms' lengths look more appropriate. Her hair looks more realistic.
Overall, the two characters and backgrounds seem believable.
In the middle image, the woman's arms still seem a little long, but definitely not like before. Some of the drink labels and the crate are also not perfect, but a graphic designer could likely clean those up.
In the right image, there might be a slight issue with the positioning of the woman's left hand.
The Dall-E images are definitely improving.
I am impressed with how rapidly things are moving.
We’re using AI regularly in our day-to-day projects in other ways.
Research and ideation
Content analysis and outlining
Script drafting
Image and video generation
Voiceover
Recently we used AI on a project to write a content script draft and then generate a program teaser video.
Now, once we did that, we augmented it with our own reality; meaning we edited the video in our own software to include audio, effects, and imagery we just couldn't get in the AI system.
But that's fair. It's an evolving technology and the best plan I have found is to embrace it and find ways to use it when it works for us.
The landscape of learning is constantly changing.
